13th National Parliamentary Election: Satkhira District

In the electoral landscape of Satkhira, the Awami League has traditionally maintained a strong position. This trend has been evident in the outcomes of most relatively credible national elections held in the past (excluding the last three). However, with the Awami League absent from the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, the voting dynamics in the district have shifted significantly. This time, the main contest in Satkhira is expected to be between the BNP and Jamaat. Below is an overview of the four parliamentary constituencies in Satkhira district.

Satkhira-1 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 105): Satkhira-1 comprises Kalaroa Upazila and Tala Upazila of Satkhira district. The constituency has a total of 496,848 voters, including 247,873 male voters and 248,973 female voters. There are two transgender voters.

Candidates: A total of five candidates are contesting in this constituency. Md Iyarul Islam is running as a Bangladesh Congress candidate with the Coconut symbol. Sheikh Md Rezaul Karim is contesting from Islami Andolan Bangladesh with the Hand Fan symbol. Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Izzat Ullah is contesting with the Scales symbol. From the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Md Habibul Islam Habib is contesting with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol. Jatiya Party candidate Ziaur Rahman is contesting with the Plough symbol.

Elected MPs: In past elections, Ansar Ali of Jamaat-e-Islami won in 1991. In June 1996, Syed Kamal Bakht of the Awami League was elected. In the 1999 by-election, Awami League’s B M Nazrul Islam became an MP. BNP’s Habibul Islam Habib won in 2001. In the 2008 election, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman of the Awami League was elected to parliament.

Satkhira-2 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 106): 
Until 2024, Satkhira-2 consisted only of Satkhira Sadar Upazila. On September 4, 2025, the constituency boundaries were revised to include both Satkhira Sadar and Debhata upazilas. The total number of voters stands at 535,654, including 265,965 male voters and 269,685 female voters. There are four transgender voters.

Candidates: Five candidates are contesting in this seat. Md Abdur Rauf is contesting from the BNP with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol. Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Muhammad Abdul Khalek is contesting with the Scales symbol. Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Mufti Rabiul Islam is running with the Hand Fan symbol. Md Idris Ali of Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Bangladesh JASAD) is contesting with the Car symbol. Jatiya Party candidate Md Ashrafuzzaman is running with the Plough symbol.

Elected MPs: In the 1991 election, Kazi Shamsur Rahman of Jamaat-e-Islami was elected MP and retained the seat in June 1996. In 2001, Abdul Khalek Mondol of the same party won the seat. In 2008, M A Jabbar of the Jatiya Party was elected.

Satkhira-3 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 107): Until 2024, Satkhira-3 included Ashashuni Upazila, Kaliganj Upazila, Debhata Upazila, and several unions. In 2025, the boundaries were revised, and the constituency now consists only of Ashashuni and Kaliganj upazilas. The constituency has 502,222 voters, including 253,984 male voters and 248,235 female voters, with three transgender voters.

Candidates: Six candidates are contesting in this constituency. Md Waj Qurani from Islami Andolan Bangladesh is contesting with the Hand Fan symbol. Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Hafez Muhammad Rabiul Bashar is running with the Scales symbol. Rubel Hossain of Bangladesh Minority Janata Party (BMJP) is contesting with the Rocket symbol. Independent candidate Md Shahidul Alam is running with the Football symbol. Jatiya Party candidate Md Alip Hossain is contesting with the Plough symbol. BNP candidate Kazi Alauddin is contesting with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol.

Elected MPs: In 1991, A M Riazat Ali Biswas of Jamaat-e-Islami was elected MP. In June 1996, S M Mokhlesur Rahman of the Awami League won the seat. Jamaat-e-Islami regained the constituency in 2001 through A M Riazat Ali Biswas. In the 2008 election, Awami League’s A F M Ruhul Haque represented the constituency in parliament.

Satkhira-4 (Parliamentary Constituency No. 108): Previously, Satkhira-4 included Shyamnagar Upazila and parts of Kaliganj Upazila. Following boundary changes in 2025, the constituency now consists solely of Shyamnagar Upazila.

Candidates: Four candidates are contesting in this constituency. S M Mostafa Al Mamun from Islami Andolan Bangladesh is contesting with the Hand Fan symbol. Jamaat-e-Islami candidate G M Nazrul Islam is running with the Scales symbol. Jatiya Party candidate Md Abdur Rashid is contesting with the Plough symbol. BNP candidate Md Moniruzzaman is contesting with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol.

Elected MPs: In 1991, Mansur Ahmed Gazi of the Awami League was elected MP. In June 1996, Shahadat Hossain of the Jatiya Party won the seat. In 2001, Jatiya Party’s Kazi Alauddin was elected, followed by H M Golam Reza, who won the seat again in 2008.
