13-year-old Oprotim buried in Kotbari after funeral prayers
The funeral prayers for 13-year-old Ishayat Shahriar Oprotim, the only son of Comilla University teacher Nahida Begum, were held on Sunday (September 20) before he was buried at Gandhamati in Kotbari.
The first janaza was held on the Comilla University campus at around 10:10am.
Before the prayers, Oprotim’s father, Shahriar, made an emotional appeal for prayers for his son and asked those present to forgive him if he had ever made any mistake.
Oprotim, a Class VII student at Border Guard Public School, went missing on Friday afternoon after leaving home with his mother’s iPhone to take photographs with friends. After failing to locate him, his father filed a general diary with Sadar Dakshin Police Station that evening.
Police recovered Oprotim’s body from a wooded area in Sananda, south of South Mor, in Cumilla’s Kotbari, around noon on Saturday. Police said there were signs of a serious head injury.
The death has raised allegations of the involvement of a youth named Tuhin. Multiple sources claimed Tuhin was with Opratim from the afternoon he went missing. Police have taken Tuhin into custody, while two others, identified as Anas and Fahim, have also reportedly been detained.
Police said the investigation into Oprotim’s death is ongoing. Officials said further details would be disclosed at a briefing at noon on Sunday.
