14 Bangladeshis arrested for illegal entry attempt through Maheshpur border
Fourteen Bangladeshi nationals were arrested on Sunday night while attempting to enter India illegally through the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah district, authorities said.
Major Emadur Rahman, assistant director of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-58 in Maheshpur, confirmed the arrests. He said the detainees were later handed over to the local police, and a case has been filed in connection with the incident.
According to BGB officials, the group included eight women, four men, and two children.
Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team from the Maheshpur Border Outpost (BOP) launched an operation in the Baghadanga and Ghoshalpur border areas around 7:00pm. During the drive, the team detained the 14 individuals as they were attempting to cross into India without valid travel documents.
The BGB continues to strengthen surveillance along the border to prevent illegal crossings and human trafficking, officials added.
