145 Bangladeshis return from Libya
145 Bangladeshis stranded in Libya returned home on Thursday (February 13) morning. A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that 145 irregular Bangladeshis stranded in Libya, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh Embassy, Tripoli, Libya and the International Organization for Migration, who were willing to voluntarily return home from Benghazi, Libya, were repatriated to the country on a chartered flight of Buraq Air at 5:30 am on Thursday.
After landing at the airport, these helpless Bangladeshis who were repatriated were received by officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Organization for Migration at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Most of the Bangladeshis repatriated in the said flight entered Libya with the instigation and cooperation of human traffickers with the intention of illegally going to Europe by sea. Most of them were abducted and tortured in Libya at various times. After returning home, the Foreign Ministry official urged everyone to be aware of this and not to travel to Libya again after going through this dangerous path.
IMO provided 6,000 taka, some food items, medical treatment and temporary accommodation to each of the repatriated from Libya.
