15 buffaloes dead at Bagerhat breeding farm
At the country’s only buffalo breeding and development farm in Fakirhat, Bagerhat, fifteen buffaloes have died. Around 7 to 8 more buffaloes are also reported to be sick.
The deaths took place between Thursday morning and afternoon (October 31).
Authorities believe the buffaloes may have died from poisoning caused by the grass in the field.
According to the management of the buffalo breeding and development farm, there were a total of 437 buffaloes on the farm, of which 15 have died.
They also reported that the sick buffaloes are receiving treatment, and efforts are being made to save them.
Md. Ahsan Habib Pramanik, Senior Assistant Director of the buffalo breeding and development farm, said, "It is initially believed that the sudden rain after intense sunlight may have caused natural nitrate poisoning in the grass, which could have made the buffaloes sick."
Dr. Monohor Chandra Mondal, the district veterinary officer of Bagerhat, stated, "Samples have been collected from the dead buffaloes for a post-mortem examination. Once the report comes in, we will be able to uncover the cause of death."
Md. Shaheb Ali, the district livestock officer of Bagerhat, said, "Samples have been collected from the dead buffaloes and their food. The exact cause of the buffaloes' deaths will be known after testing."
