15 injured in 5-vehicle pile-up near Padma bridge toll plaza
At least 15 people were injured in a collision involving five vehicles near the Mawa toll plaza on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway, at the Mawa end of the Padma Bridge, on Friday morning (July 11).
The accident took place around 11.00am when a Dhaka-bound Imad Paribahan bus reportedly lost control due to a brake failure, slamming into four other vehicles — including Hilsha Paribahan, Gosairhat Express, a private car, and a jeep.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene, with passengers injured as a result of the impact. Emergency responders and police arrived quickly to clear the area and restore traffic flow.
OC Abdul Quader Jilani of Hasara Highway Police Station confirmed the incident and stated, "The situation was brought under control promptly. Traffic on the expressway has returned to normal."
"The injured individuals were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. No fatalities have been reported so far. An investigation into the incident is underway," he added.
