15 injured in head-on collision between bus and truck in Madaripur
At least 15 people were injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a watermelon-laden truck in the Tantibari area of the Dhaka-Barisal highway in Madaripur.
The accident occurred around 6 am on Thursday, causing traffic on the highway to be blocked for some time and suffering to passengers.
Police, fire service and eyewitnesses said that a Bogdad Paribahan bus left Dhaka for Barisal in the early hours of the morning. On its way to Tantibari area of Madaripur Sadar Upazila, the bus collided with a watermelon-laden truck coming from the opposite direction towards Patuakhali. At least 15 people, including the two drivers, were injured in the accident.
Upon receiving the news of the accident, fire service and highway police members reached the spot, rescued the injured and admitted them to the Madaripur 250-bed District Hospital. However, the identities of the injured were not immediately known.
Madaripur Fire Service Inspector Sheikh Ahaduzzaman said, 'Some people have been rescued from the scene of the road accident and taken to the hospital. It is believed that the accident occurred due to reckless speeding.'
Officer-in-charge of Madaripur Mustafapur Highway Police Station Mamun Al Rashid said that traffic on the highway was stopped for some time due to the collision between the bus and the truck. Highway police brought the scene under control and the injured were admitted to the hospital.
