15 NCP leaders, activists step down from Sherpur Committee
Fifteen leaders and activists of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) have resigned from the Nakla Upazila Coordination Committee in Sherpur, refusing work under Humayun Kabir, chief coordinator of Nakla Upazila Branch.
They stepped down from the newly announced committee, alleging that Humayun Kabir is "incompetent and socially unacceptable."
Resignation letters, which clearly states that they 'completely reject' the new committee, have been sent individually to the convener and the member secretary of the central convening committee, they said in a statement released on Tuesday night (August 19).
"Humayun Kabir, chief coordinator of Nakla Upazila Branch, is an incompetent, unethical and socially unacceptable person. Therefore, we have voluntarily and collectively decided to resign," the notice read.
Among those who resigned are five joint coordinators and ten members of the committee. The joint coordinators are Mominul Islam, Monirul Islam, Sirajul Islam, Rashidul Zaman, and Jashim Uddin. The members include Delwar Hossain, Sohel Rana, Jahangir Alam, Sohag Molla, Alamin Mia, Ratan Mia, Nazmul Hasan, Sumon Mia, Arif Mia, and Sadequl Islam.
Sirajul Islam, the resigning joint convener, said, “There are complaints against the Nakla committee’s chief coordinator, and the resigned leaders were not properly valued. So, 15 of us resigned and sent letters to the central committee.”
Alamgir Kabir, number 1 coordinator of the NCP's Sherpur district committee, said, "I saw the resignation on Facebook. Discussions have taken place with the divisional committee. The district committee will meet soon to decide the next steps."
On August 10, a notification signed by Central Convening Committee Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain and Chief Organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam approved the 32-member Nakla Upazila Coordination Committee with Humayun Kabir as the Chief Coordinator.
