A massive joint operation involving RAB, police and the Department of Narcotics Control was conducted at Geneva Camp in Mohammadpur, capital, on Monday afternoon, June 1. Around 350 personnel from the three forces took part in the four-hour special drive, which led to the arrest of 16 individuals.

The coordinated crackdown began around 4:45 pm across various sectors of Geneva Camp.

Tejgaon Division Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Fazlul Karim, said 16 people were arrested during the operation and sent to the concerned police station.

DNC Director Bashir Ahmed said the joint anti-drug drive involved 90 of his officers and personnel. Over 70 members of RAB-2 also participated.

However, some law enforcement officials and local residents questioned the effectiveness of such a large-scale, pre-announced operation. Several police and RAB officers, speaking on condition of anonymity, said drug traders had received advance warning and fled before the main operation began.

Residents alleged that the forces arrived with multiple vehicles, including prison vans, and spent a long time planning inside a school, giving drug dealers ample time to escape. One resident claimed that 62 buses were reserved to take top drug dealers to Sylhet under the guise of visiting the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R.A.).

Some, however, viewed the joint operation positively.16 arrested as three forces launch anti-drug operation at Geneva Camp
