16 Bangladeshi teenagers trafficked to India return home

A total of 16 Bangladeshi teenagers trafficked to India under the lure of good work have returned home.

Among them, 10 are boys and six are girls. Their ages range from 14 to 16 years, said police.

The Indian Immigration Police handed them over to the Benapole Checkpost Immigration Police at 6:30pm on Thursday (January 31).

Benapole Immigration Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Imtiaz Ahmed said that the Bangladeshi teenagers trafficked to India were handed over to the Benapole Port Police after completing the immigration formalities. From there, an NGO called Rights Jashore will receive them and will provide them with legal assistance.

Toufiquzzaman, a senior officer of the human rights organization, said that under the lure of good work, they go to India through various border routes. They were arrested by the Indian police on charges of illegal entry. Later, three human rights organizations rescued them and placed them in shelter homes. Later, they were given the opportunity to return home with special travel permits issued by the two countries.
