17 Jamaat-affiliated law officers resign en masse in Sylhet

Seventeen law officers affiliated with Jamaat-e-Islami, serving as Additional Public Prosecutors, Additional Government Counsel and Assistant Public Prosecutors at the Sylhet District and Sessions Judge Court, have resigned en masse.

They submitted their resignation letters to Sylhet Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Abdullah Al Mamun on Wednesday afternoon, July 15, for forwarding to the Secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

Advocate Md Abdul Khalik, Organising Secretary of the Jamaat-backed Bangladesh Lawyers Council in Sylhet, confirmed the matter.

He said they voluntarily resigned from their positions to protest the current government's reluctance to implement the referendum, constitutional reform, the July Proclamation, and the abolition of the separate secretariat for the judiciary.

Among the resigning officers are Additional PP Advocate Md Alim Uddin and Additional GP Advocate Mohammad Nazmul Huda.

The Assistant Public Prosecutors who resigned are Advocates Md Rabiul Islam, Juned Ahmed, Md Mozammel Ali, Md Rahmat Ali, Yasin Khan, Mohammad Nazmul Islam, Saleh Ahmed, Aminul Islam Chowdhury, Kazi Atiful Haque, Sadek Ahmed, Mohammad Moynul Islam, Md Abdul Ghaffar, Afzal Mia Talukder, Khairul Alam and Mostafizur Rahman.

In their separate applications, they stated that they had served with dedication, honesty and sincerity for a long time. However, they are voluntarily resigning to protest the government's reluctance to implement the referendum, constitutional reform, the July Proclamation, and the abolition of the judiciary's separate secretariat. They also expressed their commitment to continue playing a responsible role as lawyers in the country's legal and judicial system in the future.
