181 women, girls tortured in November : Mahila Parishad

At least 181 women and girls were subjected to torture across Bangladesh in November, according to a report released by the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad on Tuesday.

Of the victims, 45, including 29 girls, were raped, while three were killed after rape, said the press release.

The women rights body conducted the study based on reports published in 15 national dailies.

A total of 53 women and girls were murdered, including 25 who died under mysterious circumstances.

Eleven women and girls experienced sexual violence, two of those individuals were teased, and 14 died by suicide.

Among those abducted, six were women and one was a girl, and two women were victims of acid attacks.

A total of 13 victims, including 10 girls, were physically tortured, while 12, including six girls, were trafficked.

Another eight, including three girls, were subjected to other forms of violence, the report added.

In comparison, 231 women and girls were tortured in October, 224 in September, 223 in August, and 235 in July, according to the Mahila Parishad’s monthly reports.

During these months, at least 273, including 137 girls, were raped.

From January to June, at least 819 women and girls experienced torture across the country, among them 481 were raped and 345 of them were girls.
