19 IU teachers served show-cause over July campus unrest
The authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia have issued show-cause notices to 19 teachers from various departments for allegedly intimidating students, faculty members, and officials during the campus unrest in July.
The notices, signed by acting registrar Professor Dr. Manjurul Haque, were individually sent to the accused teachers, directing them to submit written explanations within 10 working days as to why disciplinary or legal action should not be taken against them.
According to the notices, an investigation committee found the teachers involved in harassment, intimidation, and aggressive behavior targeting members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The report also accused the teachers of using abusive language, chanting provocative slogans during rallies, and instructing law enforcement to detain student protesters.
Among those served with notices are former proctor Prof Dr. Mahbubar Rahman; Prof Dr. Mahbubul Arifin (Management); Prof Dr. Paresh Chandra Barman and Prof Dr. Tapan Kumar Jodder (ICT); Prof Dr. A H M Aktarul Islam, Dr. Mia Md. Rashiduzzaman, and Associate Prof Dr. Afroza Banu (English); Prof Dr. Rabiul Hossain and Dr. Baki Billah (Bangla); Assistant Prof Shahidul Islam (Human Resource Management); Prof Dr. Kazi Akhtar Hossain and Dr. Shelina Nasrin (Accounting and Information Systems); Prof Dr. Debashish Sharma (Economics); Prof Dr. Shahjahan Mondol and Dr. Reba Mondol (Law); Associate Prof Joyassree Sen (CSE); Prof Dr. Amjad Hossain (Al-Fiqh and Law); Assistant Prof Mahedi Hasan (Law and Land Management); and Assistant Prof Mazedul Haque (Marketing).
In addition to the teachers, the investigation committee has also recommended disciplinary action against 11 university officials and 31 students on similar charges.
