1-hour work stoppage declared at Secretariat
The Secretariat Officers-Employees Unity Forum has declared a one-hour work stoppage every day at the Secretariat until the issues arising from the Government Jobs (Amendment) Ordinance 2025 are resolved.
Nurul Islam, co-chairman of the forum, confirmed this information to reporters on Wednesday (May 28), citing, "The work halt will take place daily from 10.00am to 11.00am."
"The forum will announce further action plans after May 31," he added.
Similar stoppages will be observed simultaneously in government offices nationwide.
Earlier, ASM Saleh Ahmed, senior secretary of the Land Ministry, revealed that a seven-secretary committee met with the Cabinet Secretary to discuss the crisis triggered by the ordinance’s gazette notification. The committee conveyed the demands of the protesting Secretariat Officers-Employees Unity Forum to Cabinet Secretary Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid, who will brief the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government upon his return. A final decision on the matter is expected thereafter.
The Government Jobs (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, introduced changes to job security and promotion policies for government employees, prompting widespread dissatisfaction and protests across various departments.
