2 arrested including main accused in attack on Sohag counter

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two people, including the main accused, in connection with the attack on Sohag Paribahan’s counters in Malibagh, Dhaka. The arrested are Billal Talukdar and Bappy, who are listed as accused numbers 1 and 3 in the case.

On Saturday (6 September), Billal Talukdar was arrested from the Ambagan area of Hatirjheel, Dhaka, and Bappy from the Model Town area of Keraniganj.

Wing Commander M Z M Entekhab Chowdhury, Director of RAB’s Legal and Media Wing, confirmed the arrests.

He said that on the night of 3 September around 11:00pm, a group of 30–35 people attacked two Sohag Paribahan counters on Malibagh DIT Road with weapons including machetes, iron rods, and sickles. Following the incident, the security officer filed a case at Ramna Model Police Station on 4 September naming 16 individuals and including 15–20 unidentified persons as accused.

After the attack, RAB intensified its intelligence operations. Using CCTV footage analysis and technological support, they identified the accused and launched an arrest operation, which led to their capture on Saturday.

RAB officials stated that the arrested individuals are in the process of being handed over to Ramna Police Station.
