2 Bangladeshi youths shot near Chapainawabganj border
Two Bangladeshi youths were reportedly shot near the Shingnagar border in Shibganj Upazila by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF). The BSF, however, has denied the allegations.
The incident took place around 4 a.m. on Thursday near the Shingnagar Border Outpost (BOP).
The injured have been identified as Selim (25), son of Hanif from Panditpara, Sahapara in Monaksha Union, and Suman (28), son of Sultan from Tarapur, Munnapara.
Locals said a group of about 10 people attempted to cross into India illegally through the 164/5 1S pillar area. BSF personnel from the 71st Battalion’s Daulatpur camp opened fire, injuring Selim and Suman. Their companions rescued them and admitted them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital later in the day.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) confirmed that only Selim was injured.
Lieutenant Colonel Fahad Mahmud Rinku, commander of the 53rd Battalion of the BGB, confirmed the incident and said that when contacted, the BSF denied the shooting.
