2 Bangladeshis killed in road accident in Iraq
Two Bangladeshis were killed in a road accident in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. They were hit by a speeding bus in the early hours of Monday (May 25).
Both were residents of Jamalpur. The deceased are Manohar Ali, 35, son of Khalil Mandal of Ghughumari area of Koraichra union of Madarganj upazila, and Bazlur Rahman, 40, son of the late Alal Uddin of Kowalikandi village of Charpakerdaha union.
According to relatives, Manohar Ali went to Iraq four years ago and Bazlur Rahman about a year and a half ago in search of livelihood. They worked in the same confectionery factory.
A speeding bus hit them while they were crossing the road on their way home after work, killing both of them on the spot on Monday morning. The incident has cast a shadow of grief over their families in Jamalpur.
Relatives are mourning at Manohar Ali's house. Manohar's wife Soma Akhter said that she had last spoken to her husband on Sunday afternoon. Her husband inquired about everyone in the family.
Later, on Monday morning, a relative living in Iraq called and informed him of the death in the accident. She also said that on the day of her husband's death, their only residence was also damaged in the Kalbaishakhi storm. Having lost the only earner in the family, she is now facing extreme uncertainty with her two children.
She is also worried about paying the loan installments of the Expatriate Welfare Bank.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madarganj Model Police Station Snehashis Roy said that news of the deaths of two expatriates has been received through social media and local sources. The matter is being investigated.
