2 BNP factions clash to take control of launch ghat, 10 injured
Two BNP factions clashed to take control of the Tamaruddi launch ghat in Hatia upazila of Noakhali. At least 10 people from both sides were seriously injured in this. The injured have been admitted to Hatia Upazila Health Complex.
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon. The injured admitted to the hospital are Laila Begum (30), Kamrul Islam (30), Aklima Begum (25) and Nafisa Begum (28). As Laila Begum's condition was critical, the doctor in charge of the emergency department, Shamim, sent her to the district headquarters for advanced treatment. The rest of the injured returned home after receiving primary treatment. Their names and addresses were not available.
Upon receiving the information, members of the police, navy and coast guard quickly reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
Sources said that the lessee of the Tamaruddi launch pier was Awami League leader Golam Maula Kajal. After August 5, Golam Maula Kajal fled from the ghat. Later, a local named Alamgir took over all the activities of the Tamaruddi ghat by making an agreement with Golam Maula Kajal. They reached an agreement. Since then, Alamgir has been controlling the ghat alone. But Tamruddi Union BNP President Tanvir Haider could not accept the matter. He has been trying to take over the ghat for a long time.
Meanwhile, on Thursday morning, Tanvir's followers went to the launch ghat with a group to take over the ghat. At that time, when Tanvir's people were chased by the people at the launch ghat, a massive clash broke out between the two sides. At that time, all the men and women of the families of the workers living near the ghat came forward, and the women also got involved in the clash. Upon receiving the news, the police, navy and Tamaruddi Coast Guard from the upazila headquarters went to the launch ghat and brought the situation under control.
BNP leader Alamgir said on this issue, I have no involvement with the ghat. However, he said that 40 percent of the daily income from the ghat is taken by the lessee Golam Maula Kajal. He only takes care of the workers.
Opponent Tanvir Haider said that Alamgir has been occupying the ghat for a long time by negotiating with the Awami League leader. When asked about the occupation of the ghat, he skillfully avoided the issue.
In this regard, Hatia Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Khorshed Alam said that a clash broke out between the Tanvir Group and the Alamgir Group over the Tamaraddi ghat. Several people from both groups were injured in this. The police and the navy went to control the situation. Currently, the situation is calm.
