2 buses collide head-on in Madaripur, 2 killed, 10 injured
Two people were killed and at least 10 injured in a head-on collision between two buses in Madaripur.
The accident occurred around 11:30am in the Melkai area of Dasar upazila on the Dhaka-Barisal highway on Thursday. Dasar Police Station OC Md. Tariqul Islam confirmed it.
Police said a bus belonging to Imran Paribahan that was involved in the accident was heading toward Barishal from Dhaka. Meanwhile, a BRTC bus was traveling to Dhaka from Barishal. The two buses were mangled after a head-on collision on the way. The impact of the crash caused the rear part of one of the buses to hit a van on the road, leaving it damaged as well.
Upon receiving the information, the fire service and police quickly reached the spot and started rescue work. Kalkini Upazila Fire Service officer Khokon Jamaddar said that two people died on the spot. Their bodies have been handed over to the police.
OC Tariqul Islam said that the identities of the deceased were not immediately known. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals including Madaripur Sadar Hospital.
Traffic on the Dhaka-Barisal highway was disrupted for about three hours after the accident. Later, the highway police reached the spot and removed the affected vehicles and normalized traffic on the road.
