2 butchers jailed for beating customer
A court has ordered two butchers to be sent to jail in Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur district, for beating up a customer for protesting underweight beef.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Arifur Rahman rejected their bail application and ordered them to be sent to jail on Thursday (April 2). The matter was confirmed by Assistant Public Prosecutor Amjad Hossain.
The accused are Torabganj Bazar meat trader Bahar and his son Shahed.
According to the case, the victim, Nurul Islam, complained that he was given underweight and extra fat when he went to buy meat for his younger brother's wedding on March 26. During an argument over this, Bahar, his son and the shop employees beat him up and seriously injured him.
Later, locals rescued him and admitted him to the hospital. Three days after the incident, his father filed a case with the police station.
The accused Bahar Kasai claimed that it was a 'minor scuffle' and that it is normal to give some fat while selling meat.
However, the court, finding the prima facie truth of the allegations, rejected the bail of the accused and ordered them to be sent to jail.
