2 child rape allegations reported in Savar on a single day
Police have arrested two elderly men in connection with two separate child sexual assault incidents that occurred within a single day in different locations across Savar, Dhaka.
The incidents reportedly took place inside a grocery shop in Bangram on Wednesday afternoon and a rented house in the neighbouring Panchgachhia neighbourhood on Thursday.
69-year-old detained in Aminbazar
In the Aminbazar Union of Savar, a 69-year-old man identified as Abdur Razzak was detained by the Aminbazar Police Outpost for allegedly assaulting a seven-year-old child. Law enforcement officers took Razzak into custody following a formal complaint filed by the victim's family on Thursday night. The suspect is originally from the Baubhal Upazila of Patuakhali district.
Zakir Hossain, the Inspector in Charge of the Aminbazar Police Outpost, stated that legal preparations are actively underway to file a formal case with the Savar Model Police Station.
60-year-old arrested in Bangaon
In a separate incident in the Pach Bangram area under Bangaon Union, local residents caught and handed over a 60-year-old grocer named Shahjahan to the police for allegedly assaulting a class five student. A formal case has already been registered at the Savar Model Police Station regarding this matter.
The suspect, a native of Dohar Upazila, had been residing and running a grocery business in Bangram for a long time. The victim has been admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for medical examinations and specialized treatment.
According to the case statement and family sources, the young girl was buying biscuits from Shahjahan's shop during her school tiffin break on Wednesday afternoon. The suspect allegedly lured her inside under false pretenses, confined her, and assaulted her. He also threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
The matter came to light when the victim returned home after school hours and narrated her ordeal to her uncle. As the news spread, an angry mob apprehended and assaulted the suspect on Thursday night before turning him over to the authorities.
Imran Hossain, a Sub-Inspector and the investigating officer from Savar Model Police Station, confirmed the development. He stated that police acted swiftly upon receiving information, took the suspect into custody, and ensured the victim was transported to the OCC for immediate medical support.
