2 children drown in pond in Thakurgaon

Two children drowned in a pond in Chhoto Lahiri village of Baliadangi upazila on Friday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Al Amin Shihab, 8, and his cousin Sowanur Rahman Sowan, 9, both residents of the village.

According to Juwel Rana, a neighbor, the boys went out to play around 7:30 a.m. after having breakfast. “Somehow, they fell into the pond and drowned,” he said.

At around 8:00 a.m., local resident Hasna Hena noticed a hand floating in the water while passing by and raised an alarm. Family members and neighbors rushed to the scene and recovered the bodies.

Shawkat Ali Sarkar, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Baliadangi Police Station, confirmed the authenticity of the incident and stated that police have been sent to the scene and necessary measures are being taken
