Two children were allegedly tied to a tree and tortured on charges of theft in Kalagachhia Char in Rangabali Upazila of Patuakhali. When the picture of the incident spread on social media, it created intense anger and excitement in the area.

According to local sources, the incident took place near a shop in Kalagachhia Char on Sunday afternoon (May 5). It is alleged that two brothers - 5-year-old Jihad and 7-year-old Shamim - were arrested and beaten on suspicion of stealing from the shop and later tied to a tree.

According to eyewitnesses, during the torture, the younger brother Jihad broke down in tears. It is also alleged that a part of the hair on the head of the elder brother Shamim was cut off. The incident has sparked widespread criticism in the area.

The children's mother Laili Begum said, "I went and saw them tied to a tree. Seeing me, they started crying. Later, the accused said - they stole, that's why they were punished."

The children's father, Swapan Dalal, said that the two children were beaten up on charges of theft and threatened when they protested.

The name of the accused who has been named locally is Al-Amin, an employee of the shop. However, attempts were made to contact him, but he did not give any comment.

On the other hand, shop owner Tofail claimed that Al-Amin did not beat him up, and the incident of cutting his hair is also not correct. However, it was previously resolved locally that the children were involved in theft from the shop.

A written complaint has been filed with Rangabali Police Station on behalf of the child's family.

Rangabali Police Station OC (Investigation) Ilyas Hossain Munshi said that the complaint has been received. Legal action will be taken after investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, the incident of tying children to trees has sparked strong reactions among the locals. Many say that such inhumane behavior is unacceptable in any way and have demanded exemplary punishment for the culprits.
