Two members of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) were shot during an anti-drug operation in Paltan early Thursday.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Atik Hasan and Constable Sujan, both from DB’s Lalbagh Division, were injured when suspected drug traffickers opened fire as the police attempted to intercept their vehicle near the Central Police Hospital around 1 a.m.

The injured officers were first taken to the Central Police Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Mohammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the incident, saying the raid was conducted based on a tip-off.

According to medical sources, ASI Atik sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his abdomen, while Constable Sujan was shot in his left knee.

Masud Alam, a sub-inspector at the DMCH police outpost, confirmed the officers' transfer to the hospital.
