2 dengue patient dies, 393 hospitalized

Dengue continues to spread across Bangladesh, with two more fatalities and 393 new hospital admissions reported in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the DGHS said the data covers the 24-hour period from 8:00 a.m. Tuesday to 8:00 a.m. Wednesday. With the latest figures, the total number of dengue-related deaths this year has risen to 81, while the number of hospitalizations stands at 20,702 since January.

During the period, 106 were reported in Barishal Division, 64 in Chattogram Division, 62 in Dhaka Division (out of CC), 29 in Dhaka North, 49 in Dhaka South, 45 in Rajshahi Division, 23 in Khulna Division, 5 in Mymensingh Division, and 3 in Rangpur Division said DGHS.

During the same 24-hour period, a total of 378 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries this year to 19,329.

The DGHS also shared cumulative data from previous years for context. In 2024, Bangladesh recorded 101,214 dengue cases and 575 deaths. The previous year, 2023, was the deadliest on record, with 321,179 hospitalizations and 1,705 deaths.

Health officials continue to urge citizens to remain vigilant, especially during the monsoon season when Aedes mosquito breeding increases. People are advised to eliminate standing water, use mosquito repellents, and seek medical care promptly if symptoms such as high fever, headache, and muscle pain occur.
