2 die of dengue, 195 hospitalised in 24hrs

Two more people died of dengue in the 24 hours leading up to Thursday morning, bringing the total number of deaths from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 38 this year.

During the period, 195 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, raising the total infected-case to 9, 065 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the DGHS, new cases were reported as follows: 74 Barishal Division (Out of CC), 8 in Chattogram Division (Out of CC), three in Sylhet Division (Out of CC), two Mymensingh Division (Out of CC), 18 in Rajshahi Division (Out of CC), 30 Dhaka Division (Out of CC), 28 in Dhaka North City Corporation and 32 in Dhaka South City Corporation.

Last year, dengue took the lives of 575 people.

In 2023, the death toll rose to 1,705, making it the deadliest year on record for dengue in Bangladesh.

According to the DGHS, a total of 321,179 dengue cases and 318,749 recoveries were recorded that year.
