2 fishermen dead, 2 missing after trawler capsizes in Cox's Bazar

Two fishermen have been found dead and two others are still missing after a fishing trawler capsized in rough weather in Cox's Bazar's Maheshkhali. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday (September 3) in the western part of the Sonadia Channel.

The deceased have been identified as Foyez Ahmed, son of the late Moktul Hossain from Khondkarpada in Kutubjom union, and Saiful Islam, son of Sohag Mia from Meheriyapara.

Maheshkhali Police Station OC Abdus Salam said the trawler 'FB Tasin', owned by Farid Alam, a resident of Khondkarpada, had set out to sea on Tuesday night for fishing. After reaching the Nazirar Tek coastal area, the trawler capsized after being hit by a severe storm. While some fishermen managed to swim ashore, four went missing.

Cox's Bazar District Trawler Owners Association President Delwar Hossain said local fishermen quickly launched a rescue operation after the incident. The bodies of Foyez and Saiful were recovered from the sea.

Didarul Islam Rubel, a local businessman from Nazirar Tek, said fishermen from the surrounding areas joined the rescue operation with boats. While several fishermen were rescued alive, no trace has yet been found of Nuru Alam and Muhiullah.
