Two former military officers have resigned from the central committee of the National Citizen Party (NCP), citing derogatory remarks against regular and retired armed forces personnel by senior party leaders.

At a press conference held on Wednesday at the Sagar-Runi Auditorium of the Dhaka Reporters Unity, Major (Retd.) Abdullah Al Mahmud and Major (Retd.) Md. Salauddin announced their decision to step down. Prior to the announcement, both submitted their resignation letters to the party convener.

Major (Retd.) Abdullah Al Mahmud, who served as the party’s Joint Chief Organizer, and Major (Retd.) Md. Salauddin, a central committee member, accused senior NCP leadership of repeatedly making offensive comments about serving and retired military personnel.

“We have raised our concerns multiple times with the senior leadership, but no action has been taken,” Mahmud said. “A clique has formed within the party that refuses to listen to any dissenting views. There is even a tendency to push former military members out of the party. Under these circumstances, it is impossible for us to continue working.”

Mahmud further criticized the party’s intolerance towards differing opinions, stating, “Without respect for diverse views, no political party can survive. They only want to pursue their own agenda and exclude others from meaningful roles. That is why we are stepping down.”

Both officers emphasized that they joined NCP not for personal political ambitions but with hopes of contributing to the country through a fresh political platform. “The lack of democratic practices and disrespect for differing opinions has deeply disappointed us,” Mahmud added.

“We can no longer tolerate disrespectful remarks against armed forces members or the narrow mindset of the leadership. Therefore, from today, we sever all ties with NCP,” he concluded.
