2 injured in hand bomb explosions in Chapainawabganj
Two people have been injured in three hand bomb explosions centring a bid to establish dominance in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila. Police have recovered 11 more unexploded hand bombs from the scene.
The explosions took place in the Sheikhpara and Kabirajpara areas of Maharajpur union of the upazila on Friday morning. Superintendent of Police of Chapainawabganj Gautam Kumar Bishwas conveyed the information.
The injured are Sumel and Abdul Hamid. Locals rescued them and took them to the 250-bed Chapainawabganj District Hospital. After primary treatment there, they were sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. They are currently undergoing treatment in police custody.
Superintendent of Police Gautam Kumar said tension had been prevailing for several days between the people of Odud Muhuri and Jalal Member in the Sheikhpara and Kabirajpara areas centring a bid to establish dominance. Amid this, a hand bomb exploded in a mango orchard in Sheikhpara around 5:30am. However, no one was hurt in that incident.
About four hours later, around 9:30am, two hand bombs exploded in Nawab Ali's mango orchard in Kabirajpara. Sumel and Abdul Hamid were injured in the incident.
The Superintendent of Police said police conducted an operation at the scene after receiving the news and recovered 11 unexploded hand bombs from Kabirajpara. Various evidence scattered by the explosions was also seized.
He said police have been deployed at the scene and surrounding areas to bring the situation under control. The process of taking legal action over the incident is underway.
