2 inmates fight over spitting in jail, one dead

A person was killed in a fight between two inmates over spitting in Jamalpur District Jail.

According to jail sources, an argument broke out between Pagla Hazrat, 25, and Rahidur Mia, 40, over spitting inside the jail on Thursday afternoon. At one stage of the argument, Rahidur Mia hit Hazrat on the head several times with a wooden piece from the toilet door, seriously injuring him.

The prison guards on duty and other prisoners rescued him and sent him to Jamalpur General Hospital and later was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. When his condition deteriorated, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital

Later, Hazrat died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 11 am on Friday (November 28).

The accused, Rahidur Mia, is currently in Jamalpur Jail.

Jamalpur District Jail Jailer Lipi Rani Saha said that the body of the deceased is at Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue. His body will be handed over to the family after the autopsy.
