2 journos attacked in Bogura, 6 arrested

Two journalists were attacked in the Jaleswaritala area of Bogura city on Sunday afternoon, with one sustaining serious injuries.

However, law enforcement officials have arrested six individuals with knives in connection to the incident.

The injured journalists have been identified as Khorshed Alam, Uttaranchal correspondent for 'The Business Standard' and Bogura district correspondent for 'Maasranga Television', and Asafudaula Neon, a correspondent for the online news portal 'Bogura Live'. Neon has sustained serious eye injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Bogura Mohammad Ali Hospital.

The arrested are include Rakibul Islam Rakib, 22, Habibur Rahman Roky, 25, Tariqul Islam, 22, Jisan Khan, 21, Jihad, 20, of Gandagram area of ​​Shajahanpur upazila of Bogura and Tutul, 20, of Maltinagar area of ​​Bogura Sadar.

Bogura Additional Superintendent of Police Suman Ranjan Sarkar confirmed this on Monday afternoon (April 7).

The police has recovered two Burmese knives, two motorcycles, and three mobile phones from the suspects.

The injured journalists said that a group of youths surrounded Neon and attacked him without any provocation in Jaleswaritala area. At that time, Khorshed Alam came forward and inquired the reason behind this attack. Then the attackers beat Khorshed and Neon.

Bogura Additional Superintendent of Police Suman Ranjan Sarkar said, "A case has been filed under the Arms Act against the six arrested persons at Shahjahanpur Police Station and another one is under process at Sadar Police Station in connection with the attack on journalists."

"The six individuals arrested have been identified as criminals with multiple charges filed against them for various offenses," he added.
