2 killed, 10 injured in bus-truck collision in Dinajpur
At least two people were killed and 10 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur.
The accident took place around 5:00am on the Dinajpur-Dhaka highway in the Chandipur area of the upazila on Sunday (March 29).
One of the deceased has been identified as Mosharraf Hossain Babu, 58, son of Khobir Uddin from Arikhali area of Srinagar upazila in Munshiganj. The identity of the other victim could not be confirmed immediately.
According to police and local sources, a passenger bus of ‘Heritage Travels’ heading to Dhaka from Panchagarh rammed into a truck that was parked by the roadside. The front portions of both vehicles were severely damaged in the collision. The bus helper and a passenger died on the spot.
The injured individuals were were taken to Birampur Upazila Health Complex and Phulbari Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Traffic movement on the highway was disrupted for some time following the accident but later returned to normal after police intervened.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Amir Hossain of Birampur Police Station confirmed the incident and said an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
