2 killed, 3 injured in lightning strikes in Kushtia
Two people have been killed in separate lightning strikes in Kushtia. Three others were injured in the incidents. The injured are being treated after being admitted to Kushtia Medical College Hospital.
The incidents took place around 1:30pm in Narayanpur of Rifaitpur union in Daulatpur upazila and around 2:30pm in Dahkola area of Alampur union in Sadar upazila on Thursday, September 17.
The deceased are Aroz Ali (28), son of Abdur Razzak of Narayanpur village in Rifaitpur union of Daulatpur upazila, and Rawshan Ali (Nushu), son of the late Moslem Uddin of Dahkola Karigorpara in Alampur union of Sadar upazila.
According to local sources, Aroz Ali was sitting by the river beside his house at noon. He was seriously injured when lightning struck suddenly. People nearby rushed him to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
On the other hand, Rawshan Ali and three others were injured by lightning while working in a field in the Dahkola Karigorpara area of Alampur union in Sadar upazila. Later, locals rescued them and took them to Kushtia Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared Rawshan Ali dead. The three injured are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khaledur Rahman and Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Zakir Hossain confirmed the deaths of two people in the lightning strikes.
