2 killed, 4 injured in Khulna road crash

At least two people were killed and four others injured in a road accident in the Darogar Vita area of Labanchara in Khulna at around 10:30am Monday (June 9).

The accident took place near the Rupsha Bridge when a battery-run easy bike carrying passengers collided head-on with a mango-laden speeding truck coming from Sonadanga.

According to police and local sources, the accident severely damaged the easy bike, while the truck overturned. Two people died at the scene.

The deceased were identified as Rafiqul Islam, 56, easy bike driver from the Labanchara area, and Tanzil, 12, a passenger and son of Dulal Patowary of Purbani Durgapur village in Faridpur Upazila of Chandpur district.

All the passengers of the easy bike came to Khulna from Chandpur to attend a wedding event.

With the help of locals, police and fire service members quickly rushed the injured to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).

Md Touhiduzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Labanchara Police Station, confirmed the matter.

He said, "The bodies have been kept at the KMCH morgue."
