2 killed as bus hits 3 vehicles

A bus hit a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw, a battery-powered auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh, leaving two people dead.

Of the deceased, a woman died on the spot and another died on the way to the hospital. At least 30 people were injured in the incident, five to six of whom are in critical condition.

The accident took place on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in front of the Tafrid Cotton Mill in Club Bazar in the Bhardoba area of ​​the upazila on Friday (March 20) afternoon.

The deceased are--Mushi Akhter, 40, wife of Jalal Uddin of Kashiganj area of ​​Trishal upazila, and an unidentified old man, 60. Both were passengers of the bus. The injured have been rescued and admitted to various nearby hospitals including Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex.

Police and local sources said that the driver of the bus, which was on its way from Dhaka to Nalitabari in Sherpur, lost his control over the steering when it reached the Tafrid Cotton Mill in Club Bazar. The bus first ran over three vehicles—a CNG-powered autorickshaw, a battery-powered autorickshaw and a motorcycle—and then hit a pillar. A woman died on the spot. Some of the injured were taken to the hospital, where another man died.

Senior Station Officer of Bhaluka Fire Service Atiqur Rahman said that after receiving the information, they quickly went to the spot, rescued the injured and sent them to the hospital.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhaluka Bhardoba Highway Police Station Mehedi Hasan confirmed the matter.

The identity of the elderly deceased is still being verified. Legal action is underway in the incident.
