2 killed as speedboat collides with bulkhead in Brahmanbaria
Two people have been killed in a head-on collision between a speedboat and a steel bulkhead in the Bemalia River in Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria. Another person was injured in the incident.
The accident occurred around 10pm on Monday, September 14, near Khagalia village in Bholakut union of the upazila.
The deceased are Md Dayal Mia, son of Rayhan Bhuiyan of Chatlapar village in Chatlapar union of Nasirnagar upazila, and Sajib Mia, son of Hanif Mia of Bararchar village in Kuliarchar upazila of Kishoreganj.
According to local residents and police sources, the speedboat was returning to Chatlapar after dropping a sick patient at the Nasirnagar Upazila Health Complex at night. On the way, near Khagalia village, the speedboat collided head-on with a steel bulkhead coming from the opposite direction in the Bemalia River. Three people on the speedboat were seriously injured.
Later, locals rescued the injured and took them to Nasirnagar Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared Dayal Mia and Sajib Mia dead. The other injured person was given primary treatment.
Dr Shafiqul Islam, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Nasirnagar Upazila Health Complex, said three injured people were brought to the hospital, of whom two were found dead. The other was given primary treatment.
Nasirnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahinul Islam confirmed the deaths of the two. He said police went to the hospital after receiving the news. The bodies of the deceased will be sent to the 250-bed General Hospital in Brahmanbaria for post-mortem.
