2 killed as train hits motorcycle in Nilphamari
Two motorcycle riders were killed early Wednesday morning (June 25) after being struck by a train at an unguarded railway crossing in Nilphamari district.
The accident took place around 6:30am at the Gyandash Kanaikata Tentultala crossing in Palashbari, Sadar upazila.
The deceased have been identified as Santosh, 50, and Bhavesh. Both are residents of Chawra Baragachha area in Dalua.
According to local sources, a Dhaka-bound ‘Chilahati Express’ train hit the motorcycle when crossing the tracks, leaving both riders dead on the spot. Later, the bodies were recovered by police.
Mahmudul Nabi, officer-in-charge (OC) of Syedpur Railway Police Station, confirmed this.
He said, "The crossing had no gate, and the accident occurred when the victims apparently attempted to cross the tracks without seeing the oncoming train."
