2 killed crossing railway line in Cumilla

A grandmother and her granddaughter were tragically killed by a train in Cumilla while returning home after hospital treatment. The accident occurred around 7:15pm on Tuesday in the Shasongacha area adjacent to Cumilla Railway Station.

The deceased are Josna Begum, 60, from the North Para area of Muradnagar upazila, and her 15-year-old granddaughter Chandni Akhter.

According to family and railway police sources, Josna Begum had come to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for treatment. After completing her treatment, while crossing the railway track with her granddaughter on their way to the Shasongacha bus terminal, they were struck by the Dhaka-bound Subarna Express train. Both died on the spot.

Railway police recovered the bodies and took them to Cumilla station. Later, the CID forensic team identified the victims and informed their relatives.

Cumilla Station Police Outpost Assistant Sub-Inspector Mamunur Rashid said the bodies would be handed over to the family after legal formalities. A case of unnatural death will be filed with Laksham Railway Police Station.
