2 killed in bus-truck collision in Tangail

Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a sand-laden truck in Tangail’s Ghatail Upazila.

The accident took place around 6:00am in the Hamidpur area on the Tangail–Mymensingh highway on Monday (April 20), leaving the bus driver and his helper dead on the spot.

The deceased were identified as Atikul Islam (40), son of Lal Mamud from Montola village, and Mozon Mia (43), son of late Amzad Hossain from Pakua village, both residents of Gopalpur upazila.

Police and fire service personnel responded quickly to the scene. A local youth named Bidyut sustained head injuries during rescue efforts.

Vehicular movement on the highway was temporarily disrupted following the crash but was later restored with assistance from police and locals.

Md. Moksedur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ghatail Police Station, said, "The collision took place when the bus, coming from Gopalpur, crashed into an oncoming sand-laden truck."

"Legal procedures are underway to hand over the bodies to the victims’ families," the OC added.
