2 killed in Chattogram landslide

Two workers were killed and two others were injured when landslide occurred during the construction of WASA's sewerage project in Chattogram.

The incident took place at around 4 am on Thursday in the Agrabad Access Road area of ​​the port city. The fire service went to rescue the victims after receiving the information.

The names of the two deceased workers are Rakib and Tushar. Tushar's home is in Dinajpur district. The names of the two injured workers are Sagar and Ershad. They are undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

In this regard, Deputy Director of Fire Service and Civil Defense Chittagong Division Md. Jasim Uddin told the media, "Four workers were buried while cutting soil to install WASA water pipes in front of Singapore Market on Agrabad Access Road around 4am. Our team reached the spot and rescued them and took them to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Later, the doctor on duty declared the two dead."

In this regard, SI Nurul Alam, in-charge of the Chattogram Medical Police Outpost, said that when the four workers were brought to the hospital, the doctors declared two dead and the injured two are receiving treatment in the casualty ward.

In this regard, Chattogram WASA Superintending Engineer Md. Ariful Islam said, “Our sewage project is underway. Trial pit construction was underway on that part of the Agrabad Access Road. As part of this, two workers were killed and two injured when the earth collapsed while working late at night. The Chinese contractor Sino Hydro is doing the work. We have asked them for an accident report.”

He also said, “The family members of the two deceased workers have come after receiving the news. We are talking to the contractor to ensure that the affected families get compensation. However, there is no compensation for deaths.”
