2 killed in clash between two AL groups in Raipura

Two people, including a Union Parishad (UP) member, were killed and 10 others were injured in a clash between two groups of Awami League (AL) in Narsingdi.

The incident took place at Methikanda in Raipura upazila of the district on Saturday morning (December 7).

The deceased were identified as Manik Mia, a UP member, and Kalpana Begum, a former UP member of Chanderkandi.

The clash erupted over dominance between two groups of AL, led by Jubo League leader Abid Hasan Rubel and another group. Tensions had been rising since the last Upazila Parishad elections, resulting in several previous altercations.

According to the locals, on Saturday, the two sides engage into the clash with firearms and local weapons, resulting in the deaths of Manik Mia and Kalpana Begum.

Confirming the matter, Narsingdi Police Superintendent Abdul Hannan said, "The conflict was over political dominance in the region."

"Police, RAB, and army forces have been deployed to control the situation, with law enforcement working to stabilize the tense area," he added.
