2 killed in clashes over graveyard road dispute in Habiganj

A long-standing dispute between two villages over a graveyard road in Bahubali upazila of Habiganj turned into a bloody clash on Monday. Two people were killed and about 40 injured in two clashes.

It is learnt that two clashes broke out on Monday afternoon and evening due to a long-standing dispute over the use of a cemetery road in the area between Adityapur and Arichpur villages. Selu Mia, 53, and Helal Mia, 37, of Adityapur village lost their lives in the clashes. The seriously injured Selu Mia was taken to Bahubali Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead. Helal Mia was sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital via Habiganj Hospital, where he died at night.

A tense atmosphere prevails in the area since the incident. Bahubali Model Police Station OC Saiful Islam said that additional police have been deployed since Monday to control the situation and law enforcement agencies are on alert to deal with any situation.
