2 killed in lightning strike in Rajbari

Two people, including a woman and a teenager, were killed and four others injured in a lightning strike in Kacharipara village under Habaspur union of Pangshaupazila on Saturday afternoon (August 2).


The deceased have been identified as Anwara Begum, wife of Nizam Uddin, and Tamim Molla, son of Arif Molla —both residents of Kacharipara village. They were reportedly washing jute in an open field when sudden rainfall was accompanied by a lightning strike.


According to locals, lightning struck while the group was working, leaving Tamim, Anwara, and three others critically injured. All were rushed to the PangshaUpazila Health Complex, where doctors declared Anwara Begum and Tamim Molla dead.


Among the injured are Sourav, Azim, and Hossain from Kacharipara village, and Jabeda Begum from Chandpur village of Babupara union. Jabeda was injured in a separate lightning strike while cooking at her home during the storm.


Pangsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) SM Abu Darda confirmed the incident and said the local administration would provide necessary support to the families of the deceased.
