2 killed in public beating over theft in Munshiganj
Two people were beaten to death on charges of theft in Munshiganj's Louhajang Upazila. Police have arrested three people in the incident.
Police said the incident took place at around 3am at the Satgharia Community Clinic in Haldia Union on Wednesday. According to locals, the locals caught the two men stealing the clinic's electrical wires and detained them. Later, they were seriously injured when the agitated mob beat them up.
It is learnt that they died before being rescued and taken to the hospital.
The deceased were identified as Sagar, 30, son of Farhad Mia of Bede Polli, Goalimandra, and Md. Chanarul, 30, son of Shahidul.
Locals claim that goats worth lakhs of taka were stolen from a farm in Satgharia area two weeks ago. Locals suspected that the two deceased were involved in the incident.
Police have arrested three suspects after the incident. Law enforcement officials said that operations are continuing in the area.
Munshiganj Superintendent of Police Menhazul Alam said, “We have started investigating the incident. So far, three people have been arrested.”
