2 killed in road accident in Cox's Bazar

Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a CNG-powered autorickshaw carrying passengers and a bus of S Alam Paribahan in the Toitong Bazar area of ​​Pekua upazila in Cox's Bazar. Four others were injured in the accident that occurred on Monday morning (June 15).

The deceased were identified as Hasan Ali, 65, of Chaykuri Tikka area of ​​Dhemushiya union of Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar and Afzal Sarkar, 45, of Shailjana area of ​​Chauhali upazila of Sirajganj district. The injured in the incident are Siraj, 42, Shahed, 22, Pakhi Begum, 55, and Ramim, 10, of Harinaphani area of ​​Pekua Sadar union. Some of them, who were seriously injured, have been shifted to another hospital for better treatment.

According to local sources, this morning, when a CNG-powered autorickshaw heading towards Chattogram reached the Toitong Bazar area, the autorickshaw collided head-on with an S Alam Paribahan bus coming from the opposite direction. The autorickshaw was twisted and the passengers inside were seriously injured.

After the accident, local residents and passers-by rescued the injured and took them to the Pekua Upazila Health Complex. When the physical condition of two of them deteriorated while undergoing treatment there, they were quickly sent to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital. However, they died on the way before reaching the hospital.

Later, upon receiving information, the Pekua police station quickly reached the spot and brought the situation under control and seized the bus and the CNG autorickshaw.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pekua Police Station Mehedi Hasan said, "Necessary legal action is being taken in this incident. The police are investigating the exact cause of the accident."
