2 killed in road accident in Faridpur’s Bhanga

At least two people were killed and 29 others injured when a passenger bus fell into a roadside ditch following a collision with a pickup van in Bhanga.

The accident occurred around 9:30am on the Faridpur–Barishal Highway at Bablatal bus stand in Chumurdi union on Monday( April13).

According to police and fire service officials, a bus of Shah Faridpur Paribahan was travelling from Faridpur towards Madaripur when it collided head-on with a pickup truck carrying fruit (melons) coming from the opposite direction. Following the impact, the bus veered off the road and fell into a ditch.

The deceased have been identified as Jahangir Molla, 40, son of Seken Molla, and Alamgir Sheikh, 50, son of Nesar Uddin Sheikh. Both were residents of Kaidubi Sadrdi area under Bhanga municipality and were involved in fruit trading.

Officials from the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence and highway police rescued the injured and transported them to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex, where doctors confirmed two deaths.

Bhanga Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Helal Uddin said multiple passengers were injured, and the vehicles sustained heavy damage in the collision.

Health officials said 29 injured people were admitted for treatment, including 28 bus passengers and one pickup driver. Of them, 12 critically injured patients were referred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, while others were given primary care and discharged.
