2 killed in truck-pickup head-on collision in Sirajganj
Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a pickup van in Ullapara, Sirajganj. One other person was injured in the incident.
The accident occurred around 4:30am on Tuesday, August 18, near the Patdhari village of the upazila on the Dhaka-Pabna highway.
The deceased are Saddam Hossain, 30, a businessman and passenger of the pickup van, son of Sadek Ali from Goalbathan village in Singra upazila of Natore; and Rezowan Hossain, 35, from Bogura Sadar.
According to police and eyewitnesses, a pickup van collided head-on with a rod-laden truck coming from the opposite direction around 4:30am, killing pickup passenger Saddam Hossain on the spot. Rezowan Hossain was injured in the crash and later died while undergoing treatment at Sirajganj Medical College Hospital.
Following the accident, locals blocked the road with Saddam's body, causing a two-kilometre tailback on both sides of the highway and halting traffic for about two hours. Traffic resumed around 6:30am with police assistance.
Hatikumrul Highway Police Station OC Md Ismail Hossain said police visited the scene after receiving the news and seized the truck. The blockade was lifted after discussions with locals with the assistance of Salanga Police Station.
