Two men were killed and another injured in lynching after a missing girl was found dead in Manikganj’s Sadar upazila on Friday night (April 16).

The victim, Atika, 8, daughter of Saudi Arabia expatriate Dudul Mia from Bonparil area and a first-grade student of a local madrasa, had been missing since earlier in the day.

According to police and local sources, her body was later recovered from a cornfield near her home with hands and feet tied, after an extensive search was launched following public announcements and social media appeals.

Authorities suspect she was killed in a robbery attempt targeting her gold ornaments.

News of the recovery sparked outrage in the area, after which a group of locals detained three suspected individuals and assaulted them. Two brothers—Pannu Mia and Fazlu—died on the spot, while another, Nazmul, was critically injured and is currently under police custody at hospital.

Confirming the incident, Manikganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Ekram Hossain said the child’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination and legal action will be taken over the mob violence.

He added that the situation in the area remains tense, with additional police deployed to maintain order.
