Two additional suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of scrap businessman Lal Chand Sohag, bringing the total number of arrests to eleven in the high-profile case that shocked the capital earlier this month.

Acting on a tip-off, police detained Md. Parvez (26) and Md. Zahirul Islam (38) from Keraniganj, Dhaka, around 10:45am on Wednesday (July 23). The arrests were made during a targeted operation led by officers from Kotwali Police Station.

Sohag, 39, was gruesomely murdered in broad daylight on July 9 in front of Gate No. 3 of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital. According to investigators, he was beaten, hacked, and stoned to death on a public road — a killing that the perpetrators allegedly attempted to stage as a mob attack to evade suspicion.

Police, however, acted swiftly and arrested two men — Mahmudul Hasan Mohin (41) and Tarique Rahman Robin (22) — at the scene shortly after the incident. The victim’s elder sister later filed a murder case with Kotwali Police, while a separate case was lodged under the Arms Act.

In a series of follow-up operations across the country, law enforcement agencies, including the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), arrested seven more suspects. Those arrested earlier include Alamgir (28), Monir alias Lomba Monir (32), Titon Gazi (32), Md. Nannu, and Kazi Nannu.
