2 more children die of measles, 84 new cases identified
Two more children have died of measles in the country in the last 24 hours and 84 new cases have been reported. However, no one has died with measles symptoms during this period.
The regular bulletin on measles of the Directorate General of Health Services on Thursday said that after the latest two deaths, a total of 49 people have died of measles since March 15. In addition, 227 more patients have died with measles symptoms.
Division-wise, the highest number of deaths with measles symptoms so far has been in Dhaka and 70 in Rajshahi division.
The Directorate General of Health Services said that in the last 24 hours, 1151 patients have come to hospitals with measles symptoms, of whom 848 have been admitted. Of the admitted patients, the highest number of 366 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and the lowest number of 11 were admitted in Rangpur.
Since March 15, the number of suspected measles patients has stood at 37,131. Of these, 5,028 have been confirmed to have measles.
Meanwhile, a program to vaccinate 18 million children across the country has begun since April 20. Of this, 12.162 million children in eight divisions of the country and 1.495 million children in 12 city corporations have been vaccinated so far.
